Item Description

The Camp Bird mine near Ouray, Colorado is one of the most classic of all the Colorado ore body localities. It is celebrated for its superb Chalcopyrite specimens, exhibiting some of the finest twins for the species extant. This specimen features a few good quality, sharp, metallic, brassy-gold colored crystals of Chalcopyrite up to 2.0 cm which are associated with minor Sphalerite crystals sitting atop contrasting white, prismatic Quartz crystals. This is a GREAT Chalcopyrite specimen from this most classic of San Juan localities. Camp Bird specimens are nearly impossible to obtain these days, and are regarded among Colorado collectors as some of the best from the state. This piece came to Rich Kosnar from his father-in-law, Dave Bergman.
