Chalcopyrite on Calcite (fine rare locality specimen)

A rarely seen specimen of Chalcopyrite on Calcite from this famous locality in the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge) of Germany. This is certainly the finest Chalcopyrite that I can remember having to offer from Schlema, both in size and quality. This full cabinet sized display specimen hosts a 2.1 cm group of bright brassy metallic Chalcopyrite with sharp, well-formed crystal faces sitting on a "feathery" group comprising narrow scalenohedral Calcite with a contrasting reddish-brown. The deep reddish color is due to iron oxide inclusions in the Calcites, and if you flip the piece over, you'll see the underside has a lighter beige hue where the iron oxide did not penetrate the underlying Calcite. No major I can find an very showy. A top-notch example for the locality, and a must-have for any fan of minerals from the Erzgebirge. Valued $1,500.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#239 D), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
