Item Description

A spectacular combination specimen from the well-known Alimon Mine at Huaron, Peru. The base of the dramatic sulfide pillar is a large, striking, brassy, 3.4 x 3.0 cm, chalcopyrite crystal. Capping the pillar are lustrous, jet-black, twinned, sphalerite crystals, distinctive melted-look galena with swirled or hoppered faces and a needle quartz spray. The base is composed of the same minerals, plus pyrite pyritohedrons. Complete all-around, the pillar is totally pristine and the bit of periphery wear at the base is certainly not a detraction. A very fine, very showy and classic combination specimen from this noted locale from the mid-1980s to early 1990s mining period. Ex Schlichter Collection. Valued at $400.
