Item Description

Chalcopyrite specimens from this ancient iron mine, abandoned in 1965, are seldom seen on the market. I'm not 100% certain that this piece was labelled correctly as I can't really find any actual crystals of Chalcopyrite, but what appears to be Sphalerite instead. One can clearly see the white Quartz and reddish-brown Siderite "discs" measuring up to 3 mm, but the sulfide species is what is in question on this one. The piece is still a seldom seen specimen dating back over 50 years at least! Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#12301). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
