Item Description

Masonite is an impure variety of Chloritoid and specimens from this very obscure Rhode Island Type Locality are very rare. This is a lustrous, solid greenish-gray platy specimen of the varietal. From an East Coast collection and accompanied by a label from the legendary mineral dealer, Hugh A. Ford. Since the piece has Ford's Wall Street address, the label dates between 1947-1956. For the quality, historic significance and overall beauty, we have this piece priced at $800 in the inventory. A rare, rich and desirable example of this rare variety of Chloritoid.
