Item Description

Here we have an incredibly rare specimen from Newcastle featuring brilliant micro pinkish-purple Chromian Clinochlore ("Kammererite") associated with stark green Uvarovite Garnet on Chromite matrix. Obviously chromium can do a lot in terms of the strength of color in minerals, clearly seen in the intense purples and greens on this specimen. I cannot find another example of this material in any online search, and I can certainly say that it is the only specimen that we've had to offer for sale. Even looking on mindat.org, we see that there are zero photos of specimens from this locality, so you KNOW it's rare! The crystals are tiny to be sure, the Kammererites are well-formed and distinct while the Uvarovite is in more of a massive form. If you collect minerals of California, you cann't afford to pass up the opportunity to add such a unique specimen to your collection. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1687). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
