Item Description

A rich green large polished combination slab from this famous deposit found in 1908. Most of the lustrous, slightly translucent green specimen is chromian diopside with a bit of chromite ore matrix. The lower right hand corner hosts a myriad to tiny emerald-green uvarovite garnet crystals. The locality is renowned for outstanding large sharp uvarovite crystals, to over 2.0 cm. There is no magnetite in the piece. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2721 and acquired as a gift in Hamburg from Dr. Beil, in the mid-1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Classic and rich combination material from the locale.
