Item Description

A fantastic GEM quality, sharp, lustrous, gold colored crystal of Chrysoberyl from the Colatina locality at Espírito Santo, Brazil. If you look closely at the termination, there is a slight indentation that gives the impression that the crystal might be twinned, but upon close inspection, I cant' find an actual symmetry plane, so it might be a single crystal with an oddly "indented" termination. With that said, there is a slight "phantom" that runs the length of the crystal that almost looks like it would represent the boundary between the two crystals, but it's hard to say for sure. If this is indeed a single (untwinned) crystal, it would actually be a great rarity, as the vast majority of the Chrysoberyls from Espírito Santo show some kind of twinning habit. I'm hesitant to say for sure that it's not twinned, but I can't say for sure that it is. A really attractive thumbnail specimen of this classic material with an odd habit and an uncommon color (most Chrysoberyls from this area show some kind of green hue, but this one is notably on the golden side of the spectrum).
