Item Description

The upper 2.7 cm face of this vein of chrysoprase has been sawed and polished to accentuate the vivid, lustrous, translucent rich apple-green color on this sculptural miniature matrix chrysoprase specimen. This shapely piece is from a recent 2018-19 find at this historic old nickel deposit, mined since the Middle Ages and finally abandoned in 1980 (MINDAT). Chrysoprase is the apple-green variety of chalcedony. The color is caused by tiny inclusions of Nickel-bearing layered silicates. Excellent quality material from the find and GLOWS, when backlit.
