Item Description

Metacinnabar specimens are RARE this historic German mercury district, closed since 1942. Blood-red cinnabar crystals and sections richly cover both sides of the rich mercury ore quartz-rich matrix plate. The back hosts numerous black blebs and sections of the rare metacinnabar. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 4041 and acquired from Scott Williams as a gift in 1964. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). This is a remarkable, rich and RARE combination specimen for the locality.
