Item Description

Citrine is a well-known gem, but many people are surprised to know that a good majority of the Citrine that one encounters on the market were actually heated to turn them yellow. Essentially, somebody discovered many years ago that you can heat natural purple Amethyst gems (of which there is an abundance from various world localities) and with the right combination of temperature and time, you'll produce attractive yellow Citrine gems. Now that's not to say that natural Citrine doesn't exist, there are plenty of places where it has been found around the world, but it's not nearly as plentiful as Amethyst, so it's easier to heat the purple stones and get yellow gems out of them. This stone is a good example of said material. Now there are hundreds of thousands of heated Citrine gems on the market, and they are completely accepted by dealers and collectors, so long as the buyer knows they are buying a heated stone. With that said, this is good sized stone, with wonderful color saturation. It is virtually eye clean with an "Oval Brilliant" cut.
