Item Description

Clinochlore variety pennine is an uncommon and desirable species from this well-known Swiss area. Penninite is an old-time synonym for pennine, a rare pseudo-trigonal variety of Clinochlore. This very cute, sharply formed layered, tapered crystal is mostly black with hints of typical green clinochlore color. Complete all-around. The cleaved termination shows translucent green flashes under bright light. Hard to see, but one face has two included rutile needles, to 8 mm and another face has impressions, where numerous rutile needles once lay. Rutile is VERY RARE from here. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2159 and acquired from Linderman on November 22, 1961. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A classically shaped old pennine crystal with VERY RARE accessory rutile.
