Item Description
Sparkly tiny pastel-pink rhombs cover the rolling bubbly, almost triangular face of the layered matrix on this pretty small cabinet piece from the Kay Robertson Collection # 3639. The pink is due to cobalt inpurities and the dolomite here replaced a previous generation of calcite - a common Tsumeb replacement, though seldom seen for sale today. It was acquired in the mid-1960s from Burton Jirgl, an itinerant California mineral dealer. Read his biography in the Mineralogical Record Biographical Archive at: http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=822. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
