Item Description

RARE and excellent combination material from this old unprofitable intermittently active lead mine. Classic for the locale, "cockscombe" clusters of bladed barite are attractively intergrown on the mounded specimen. Nicely placed on the top and sides are RARE for the locale, glassy, colorless elongated nail head calcite prisms, to 1.0 cm. The mine was worked from 1835 to 1882. From an East Coast collection. 130+ year-old material with the old label on the bottom. A fascinating, sculptural and RARE old Cumbria combination from the Wythburn Mine. Specimens from here are RARE.
