Item Description

Top notch, very glassy, colorless, gemmy to translucent, elongated to blocky colemanite crystals are densely intergrown on this very fine and sculptural large plate from the Type Locality area of the species. The large blocky crystal is 4.7 cm long and the large elongated crystal is 4.2 cm long. The interior is pristine on this outstanding example. East Furnace Creek is now in the Death Valley National Park. Probably self-collected by Bob Reynolds or otherwise by his friend Jim Minette who was mine manager here - and these date to the 1980s. Bob was a huge field collector in California and had a broad collection, including many such historic locales. He was the curator of the San Bernardino Museum. The piece has several fine display views.
