Item Description
Uncommon and attractive, this combination cabinet specimen is from the U.S. Borax Mine in California. The matrix is coated by a layer of fine, bladed Colemanite crystals. Distributed nicely along the surface are numerous botryoids of golden Calcite that reach up to 9 mm acrosss. The Calcites are fluorescent and translucent, and they provide a nice complement to the Colemanite. Interestingly, some of the combinations from US Borax have Calcite on Colemanite, while others are the exact opposite. This attractive piece is highly representative for the mine and a style that came out in the 1960s and 1970s.
