Item Description

Garnets come in virtually every color of the rainbow. I've seen Garnets in all shades including the rarely seen blue color. Some of the most highly sought after and attractive Garnets out there are the color change stones from East Africa. Here we have a pair of "Oval" cut gems which are probably a mix of Almandine and Grossular with a slight amount of Pyrope in it. A good percentage of the Garnets from Tanzania are not purely a single species, but show a mixture of two or more in the same stone. These gems have a very attractive pinkish-purple color in incandescent lighting, and change to a vibrant reddish-pink hue under halogen lighting. If you take them out in the sun, they show a softer orange-pink hue with yellow overtones. These gem display what is sometimes referred to as an "Alexandrite"-type color change, but you'd like to see more of a greenish hue to really call them "Alexandrite"-type. The stones are virtually eye clean. A highly valued pair of gems in today's market.
