Item Description

Copper specimens aren't terribly common from Canada, but the Cape D'Or area in Nova Scotia has produced some very beautiful and aesthetic specimens, some of which are reminiscent of those from the Itauz Mine in Kazakhstan. Here we have an aesthetic small cabinet sized specimen featuring branching and arborescent growths of crystallized / crystalline Copper with minor Cuprite, beautifully perched on matrix. If you've ever wanted one of these hard to find Coppers, now is a great chance to pick one up, as very little is available on the market now. Valued $900. From the collection of Brian Kosnar.
From the Mineralogy of Nova Scotia website, "The prominent cliffs of the cape are Triassic age basalts. Several separate lava flows occurred, and there is evidence that some erosion occurred between flows. At least six separate flows can be counted at Cape D'Or. Although small amounts of copper have been found in the basalts at various localities around the Bay of Fundy, in the area around Cape D'Or the concentration is highest. Even so, the amount of copper can only be considered a tiny amount when compared to the famous Michigan copper region, where huge chunks of copper up to several hundred tons were found" - http://nsminerals.atspace.com/CapeD%27Or.html
