Item Description

Here we have a showy, and fine quality display specimen of the elusive Boddington Mine Coppers featuring beautiful sharp crystals on all sides. The habit of the crystals shows combinations of dodecahedrons, cubes, octahedrons and even some small tetrahexahedral faces. I love the fact that the piece has good luster combined with a pleasing patina of reddish-copper color. This would be a great copper from any locale, but its value is elevated due to the scarcity of Boddington material on the market. The piece is essentially a complete "floater" as it is crystallized all around and it is so three-dimensional and showy! For reference, the Boddington Mine is actually a gold mine and according to mindat.org "It has estimated reserves of 20 million ounces of gold, and copper production of 30 000 tonnes per year. The estimated life of the mine is twenty years... A small number of high quality, non gold specimens were recovered during the early days of exploration by enlightened geologist Roger Staley. These were donated to the Brisbane Mineral Museum, who off-loaded some spare specimens onto the collectors market." Priced at $3,750 in the inventory.
