Item Description

The Ray Mine is a large copper deposit which lies north of Tucson and east/southeast of Phoenix. It has been the source of many fine crystallized specimens for years, including some iconic examples of Copper. This piece is a dramatic and showy large cabinet display specimen featuring dozens if not hundreds of crystals, tightly intergrown to create what almost looks like some kind of organic formation, like coral or some kind of plant life. The piece is loaded crystals on all sides, and has a fantastic antique reddish-brown patina. The piece displays wonderfully as you can see from the video, and it would really look great in a display case, but I also had a lot of fun looking at all the crystals up close, even with a loupe to really get a feel for the mixture of habits present. The piece comes with an old label from Wright's Rock Shop (Chris Wright), which states it was collected by Wayne Thompson. Valued $2,000 for size, quality and the historic significance, as it was collected by one of the great mineral dealers/collectors/miners of the last 50+ years.
