Item Description

Blebs of bright copper and silver ore are clearly visible in this impressive and sculptural large sawed slab of copper ore from the well-known Caledonia Mine of Michigan's famed Copper Country. Backlighting highlights the blebs of copper with fewer silver blebs on the slab. The striking varia-colored, brecciated and fissured basaltic matrix includes a large Quartz vein with adjacent pods of contrasting green Epidote. The red color is caused by red Feldspar. The front of the slab was either sprayed with Krylon or coated with lacquer, producing the high luster. Ex Bill Severance Collection, a well-known Pennsylvania collector who passed away in January 2023. Outstanding large, colorful and uncommon copper and silver ore slab from the locale. Mass is 450 grams or just about 1.0 pound in weight. The specimen was recovered by mine owners Red Metal Exploration between 1985 and 2013 and has been in the collection of the late Bill Severance.
