Item Description

An old-time, good quality copper specimen from the famous Wolf Mine of Germany. Although we know it for rhodochrosite, COPPER from here is actually quite uncommon! The large and relatively sculptural piece consists of bubbly, botryoidal, cauliflower-like clusters of sintered-looking copper crystals with a variable patina on gossan matrix. The mine operated continuosly from 1870 to 1925 and then sporadically until 1962. The base and back have been sawed to enhance the display quality, so it sits nicely. VERY RARE. ex Hermann Grude collection. Valued $750 or more
