Item Description

Terminated, sharp quartz crystals in native copper are extremely rare from the historic Phoenix Mine. A 4.5 cm, glassy, multiply-terminated quartz crystal is jauntily set on the side of a large hackly to sharply crystallized native copper specimen with a rich coppery patina. The sculptural copper richly hosts numerous quartz crystal fragments on all sides. The Phoenix was one of the earliest mines in the District, starting production in 1850. Undoubtably old-time material, but no proof. Ex George Elling Collection. Valued at $600-800 for rarity, locality and age.
