Item Description

This showy cabinet specimen is still a very impressive display piece featuring a 3.0 cm, medium blue colored prismatic hexagonal crystal of Sapphire with a pristine termination, sitting on Calcite and schist matrix. There is a second smaller (but slightly thicker) Sapphire crystal lower down on the front face of the piece for a nice touch, and is also has a beautiful termination with striated triangular crystal faces. A very impressive and fine quality display specimen that would make a fine addition to any Corundum suite or minerals from the US. Valued $1,750.
PLEASE NOTE: This specimen is listed as coming from Yogo Gulch, Montana, but I highly doubt this is accurate, as matrix specimens from Yogo are virtually non-existent, and the crystals are almost always thin/flat/tabular, and not elongated prisms like this piece.  Special thanks to John Clinkenbeard reaching out and giving us the insight to the locality.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#137 US), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the next two to three years through our various platforms.
