Item Description

Covellite and bornite combination specimens from the Ketchikan District of Alaska are very rare and are seldom on the market. Iridescent, silvery-metallic with subtle magenta and electric-green highlights, covellite and bornite plates and crystals are richly scattered in the hefty greenstone sulfide matrix on this old-time specimen. This very uncommon material could be from any of three mines in the District. Ex Ivor Hunter, Ted Johnson Collections. The Ivor Hunter label has an August, 1959 date. Not pretty to look at, but very rare, highly representative and rich combination sulfide ore from this locale. These are copies of the original set of labels. This piece is MUCH richer and more colorful, than the first and only other piece we had of this material.
