Covellite (HUGE old specimen!)

Item Description

This is a HUGE specimen of classic oldtime covellite from the mid-1900s heyday here at Summitville. I have never had such a large example of this material before (at 2 kilos and 7 inches length, its pretty impactful!). Although the edges are contacted where platelike crystals broke from the lamellar grip of the surrounding mass, the result is a play of colors on the exposed crystal faces that shows purples and reds by reflection. The upper surface has duller color, because they are natural terminations and so not as lustrous as the contacted sides.
