Item Description

The finest examples of Crocoite are those from the Dundas Mineral Field in Tasmania. These specimens are world famous for their superior form, crystal size and quality. This attractive small cabinet display specimen features dozens of sharp, prismatic, electric orange-red colored Crocoite crystals measuring up to 1.2 cm long sitting atop oxidized matrix. Crocoite is certainly one of the most distinctive mineral species in the world in terms of color and appearance, and when you have a showy specimen like this, it's all the more enticing. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
