Item Description

A RARE and colorful large combination of ores from this large open pit mine, the largest in South Africa. The large granular calcite matrix hosts: a RARE 1.2 cm section of lamellar, silver-metallic cubanite; much rare dramatically iridescent chalcopyrite; a 3.0 cm laminated section of bronzy iowaite, a rare Mg-Fe hydroxide; and lustrous, massive dark gray magnetic magnetite on one end. The calcite has moderate pink fluorescence. Ex Renaud Vochten Collection.
