Item Description

V-twinned tabular cubanite crystals of this quality are RARE from this large underground nickel mine in Canada, found only a few times. The two-sided thumbnail cutie has classic splendent brassy luster and sharp striations, typical of the species. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 11471 and acquired from Don Doell of Toronto, Canada at the Tucson Show in 1988 (Don handled many of these, and was a direct source from the miner). A superb thumbnail, valued $1000-1250 if seen at a show or on the normal market, and rare these days. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
