Item Description

Splendent, sharp, metallic cuprite crystals, to 1.3 cm, GLOW with cherry-red color, when backlit on this very aesthetic, rich and colorful combination from the famous. The cuprites are dramatically set on a contrasting elongated vug lined with pretty turquoise-blue chrysocolla. The Katanga Copper Crescent has produced some of the finest cuprite specimens found anywhere. This outstanding combination is from the last major Katanga find in the early 1990s, from the famous Mashamba West Mine. Periphery wear to some of the cuprites in the front is noted, but is certainly only a modest detraction. Cuprite and chrysocolla combinations of this richness and quality are uncommon and this is a very fine example. Valued by the former dealer at $2100.
