If you had to make a list of some of the top localities for Cuprite in the world, the famous Mashamba West Mine has to included. Some of the most attractive and fine quality examples of the species have come from this mine, often found with beautifully contrasting Chrysocolla, making for one of the best eye-catching color combos in the minerals world. This attractive small cabinet specimen features a predominant, very sharp, well-formed, textbook octahedral crystal of Cuprite measuring 1.2 cm associated with additional Cuprites and pale blue-green Chrysocolla on matrix. When backlit the Cuprite crystals show the classic blood red color for which Cuprite is known. The fronts of the Cuprites are in good condition, but a few of them are incomplete on the back where the piece was separated from the pocket wall.
