Item Description

A very rare seen specimen of the highly sought after Cuprites from the Bagdad Mine. Dozens of sharp, lustrous, rich metallic red colored crystals tightly intergrown make up the display side of this attractive speicmen. Upon magnification the hundreds of tiny cubic crystals look beautiful with a glowing red color when backlit. Cuprites from the Bagdad Mine are nearly impossible to find on the market, and you can only get them in old collections. This piece probably dates to the 1950s or 1960s. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#5316). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
