Item Description

I would guess that most gem collectors do not have a Danburite in their collections, and it's a shame because this uncommon boro-silicate is certainly brings more to the table than people might expect. Of course there are the superb gem quality crystals from Charcas, Mexico that produce excellent faceted stones, but we have something here that is MUCH rarer and certainly more desirable. To start, this stone is an unusual color for Danburite, as we typically don't see yellow gems from anywhere, but what makes it so special is the fact that it displays a SUPERB cat's eye, which is remarkably rare for the material. The combination of the rare color and the cat's eye effect make this stone a must own for any rare gem collector. The stone has a "pear cabochon" cut, and the "eye" is oriented beautifully so it runs perfectly down the center of the gem. Additionally, the "eye" is incredibly bright, sharp and distinct to boot. I was legitimately surprised that this was in fact a Danburite, I would have guess Chrysoberyl. I can only remember seeing a few others in my life, and they were from Madagascar, and this is certainly the first one we've ever had to offer from Tanzania. Priced at $301.50 retail.
