Item Description

The Braen's Quarry in New Jersey has been a seldom collected quarry for years, but has been a source of excellent Zeolite specimens and associated species. This piece features no Zeolites, but does hosts lovely "water green" color crystals of Datolite measuring up to 1.0 cm on matrix. The crystals have fairly sharp faces, along with decent gemminess. Additionally, the specimen shows sculptural, sharp, narrow striated "casts" of Datolite after preexisting Anhdyrite, which is not terribly common in my experience with Datolite from Braen's. The Anhydrite actually formed first, and then the Datolite came in over the top, and later the Anhydrite has dissolved away. Minor damage, but still good quality, and a wonderful example of this classic Trap Rock material. From the famous trap rock collection of Rich Kosnar, and one of the last pieces he acquired befor he died.
