Item Description

The three small copper mines in the Guchab area were active from only 1911 to 1927 and produced superb dioptase specimens long before Tsumeb. This very fine specimen, from the Russell Jones Collection, features gemmy and lustrous, rich emerald-green dioptase crystals to 1.3 cm richly embedded in the calcite matrix. These beautiful crystals have a very similar, yet slightly different look, than Tsumeb dioptase. Very seldom on the market in this quality and richness. Comes with a Hugh Ford label, a prominent English dealer who lived in New York City. The label dates from 1946-57. $30 was expensive in those days! Valued at $400.
