Item Description

A fascinating and uncommon smoky quartz plate from this abandoned quarry in a melaphyr (basalt or andesite). Striking sprays of tiny goethite needles are richly included in and attached to gemmy, glassy, dipyramidal (beta style) smoky quartz crystals on the quartz crystal matrix. The closeups are beautiful. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 4758 and acquired from Al McGuinness in the mid-1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). An exceptional example of this very attractive combination.
