Dolomite (old classic)

Item Description

A superb and sculptural large two-sided, doubly terminated specimen of intergrown honey-yellow, translucent dolomite rhombohedrons, with waxy luster on their faces, from the well-known Pedra Preta pit at famous Brumado. Some areas are water-clear, gem (rare), while other areas are translucent, adding beauty. The stepped-growth and striated prism faces and the prominent groove, lower on one side, where another crystal once lay add much character. Complete all-around and essentially pristine, with only a very gently bruised termination. Ex Chet Lemanski collection No. 04873CL and acquired in 1995. Most Brumado dolomite photos shown in MINDAT are from the Pomba pit, making this an uncommonly large and gemmy specimen from the Pedra pit. Old classic!
