Item Description

A RARELY seen specimen from the famed Caecilia Mine featuring reddish (iron-stained) and white Dolomite that has formed pseudomorphs after preexisting scalenohedral Calcite crystals. You can see on the broken pseudomorph, along with the underside of the specimen that there are hollow cavities where the Calcite once grew, making this a "cast" (perimorph) along with a pseudomorphic replacement. I have never seen a specimen of this material from this mine, and Calcite isn't actually reported from the Caecilia Mine on mindat, so you know that these are RARE! A great piece for any collector of pseudomorphs or "casts", along with anybody who likes German minerals. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#3688). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
