Item Description

This piece to the best of my knowledge is the first specimen of its kind that we've had to offer in the auctions from Bou Beker. While neither Dolomite, Gypsum nor Malachite are rare minerals, they are not typically seen from this well-known locality, and I can't remember ever having one to offer in the past. The piece resembles a stalactite, with a bulbous group of sharp, well-formed, semi-"stepped", slightly curved rhombic crystals of pinkish-brown colored Dolomite (said to be coated with iron oxide, e.g., Liomite) with reflective vitreous luster which play host to small groups colorless, transparent Gyspum crysatals that have inclusions of forest-green colored Malachite, creating a striking and showy display specimen. The micro photos show there are some TINY radial sprays of sky-blue Rosasite as well. The piece sits beautifully on its own without the aid of a base or clay and looks fantastic from all sides. No damage that I can see anywhere other than the base where it was separated from the pocket wall. These must have come from a single pocket, as I can't recall seeing much of them on the market over the years. Don't miss out on this beautiful and very hard to find locality piece, especially if you're a fan of secondary ore minerals, carbonates, minerals of Morocco, or just beautiful display specimens. I value this one highly for its size, quality and scarcity on the market, probably in the $2,000 range retail. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#218 M), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the coming months and years through our various platforms.
