Item Description

Dobrova is part of modern day Slovenia, but when at the time of the discovery of Dravite, this locality was part of Carinthia (Austria), as stated on the label accompanying this specimen. Dravite gets its name from the Drau River (Drave) which flows near Dobrova. This piece features a sharp, well-formed, 2.0 cm prismatic crystal of rich honey-golden colored Dravite along with a few additional accessory crystals in "Margarodite" Mica (according to the label), but the literature states that it's most likely Muscovite. How often does one have the chance to purchase a piece of Dravite from the type locality!? Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#910). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
