Item Description

For many decades, Tanzania has been one of the most well-known gem-producing nations in the world. A good number of many interesting and unique stones have been found over the years. Some of the more distinctive and rarer colors of Tourmaline I've seen in the last couple decades have come out of Tanzania. At first glance, one might think that this stone could be some kind of Garnet, or maybe even something like Epidote or Vesuvianite, but it's a unique Dravite Tourmaline with a rarely seen color. Most Dravites are in the golden/brown/yellow end of the spectrum, but this one has a noteworthy green hue due to the fact that is contains a small amount of chromium. There is a bit of a golden overtone, but the prevailing hue is still green. The stone has an "Oval Brilliant" cut gem with nearly eye clean clarity. The combination of the unique color and less common locality would make a fine addition to any Tourmaline collection, or would be perfect for a unique pendant featuring one of the less common gem Tourmaline species and colors.
