Item Description

Dobrova is part of modern day Slovenia, but when at the time of the discovery of Dravite, this locality was part of Carinthia (Austria), as stated on the label accompanying this specimen. Dravite gets its name from the Drau River (Drave) which flows near Dobrova. This piece features a fairly large, doubly-terminated, fairly sharp, well-formed, prismatic crystal of rich tan-brown colored Dravite with thin layer of Muscovite in areas. How often does one have the chance to purchase a large crystal of Dravite from the type locality!? Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1112). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Valued at $1400 for the size and the fact that it's from the type locality.
