Item Description

Pearls along with gems like Coral are some of the few organic gems that are common to the market. Pearls are made of calcium carbonate (like Calcite) and are formed within the soft tissue of the shell of a mollusk. Pearls occur in tiny crystalline form, and grow as concretions in small even layers. Throughout history, Pearls have become synonymous with beauty and sophistication. A large percentage of the Pearls on the market today are cultured Pearls which means that they occur naturally within the shell of a mollusk (usually a mussel), but they are aided by man to create the stones. This pair of elegant earings features two 4.30 mm round Pearls with a slight iridescent nacre for which Pearls are best known. The earrings are made of both 14 kt yellow Gold with Sterling Silver backs. A great set of earrings for somebody with a June birthday as Pearl is one of the birthstones for that month.
