Item Description

People traditionally think of Colombia when it comes to matrix Emerald specimens, but specimens from Bahia, Brazil can actually be fine quality, and will sometimes host much larger crystals on matrix than most anything from Muzo or Chivor. Here we have a full cabinet sized display specimen which hosts a 4.0 cm, sharp, well-formed, prismatic, good quality, semi-lustrous, RICH emerald green colored, hexagonal crystal measuring 4.0 cm sitting on slightly smoky colored massive Quartz with a bit of contrasting silvery schist mixed in. There are a few secondary partial smaller Emeralds on the piece, but the main crystal is the real focus. You can see the strong color of the main crystal when backlit, as it has a bit of the blue overtone that gives it that true emerald hue. I'm impressed with how sharp and well-formed the main crystal is. Many of the Emeralds from this locality are often broken, but this crystal actually has a contact terminations where it grew against the Quartz and or schist matrix and was later exposed after mining. You truly don't see a lot of matrix display pieces from this locality on the market like this, and it would make a nice addition to any Brazilian mineral collection, a gem crystal collection or a suite of Beryls / Emeralds. Priced at $1,250 in the inventory.
