Item Description

A superb old Enargite specimen from a discovery in the 1970s at this little-known mine just south of Cerro de Pasco, Peru. The piece features superb, very good sized, well-formed, prismatic, striated crystals measuring up to 3.6 cm long, which have a dark grey-black metallic hue, along with a lovely iridescent coating of "peacock"-colored Bornite in places, giving the piece a bit of tincture that one wouldn't expect from an Enargite. The piece is quite showy and three-dimensional, with no damage on the front/display side. The crystals are larger than anything else I can remember seeing from the locality, certainly striking with their wonderful morphology. If you collect sulfides, minerals of Peru, or you've always wanted a top-notch Enargite to add to your collection, don't miss out on this superb specimen from 50± years ago. Valued $2,500.
From the collection of Colorado mining legend, Dave Bergman. Dave is now retired, but among other things, he was the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s. He is also the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures".
