Item Description

A very attractive, fine quality, textbook, doubly-terminated monoclinic crystal of Epidote with sharp, lustrous faces and a deep black-green color. When backlit, the piece even shows a tiny bit of gemminess. The piece is all the way around with no major damage that I can see. The piece is from San Quintin, Baja California, Mexico, but I think it would certainly pass for Alaska or various European Alpine localities. A superb large thumbnail / toenail sized piece of this less than common material from Mexico. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#6548) mounted in a Willard Perkin "Perky Box" display with his typed label. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A beautiful and attractive piece from this unlikely locale.
