Item Description

A very attractive, fine quality small cabinet Epidote specimen featuring stout, sharp, lustrous, well-formed, "sword"-shaped monoclinic crystals of Epidote measuring up to 1.3 cm long with a saturated extra virgin olive oil green color on matrix. When backlit, the piece shows good gemminess internally. The piece is in good shape all the way around with no major damage that I can see. The piece is from Baja California, Mexico, but I think it would certainly pass for Alaska or various European Alpine localities. This is certainly a very desirable piece of this less than common material from Mexico. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4248) mounted in a Willard Perkin "Perky Box" display with his typed label. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A beautiful and attractive piece from this unlikely locale.
