Item Description

This is the only Epidote crystals we've ever had to offer from the Ribaué District in Mozambique. The piece is a sharp, rather lustrous, well-formed single prism with a "chisel"-shaped termination, free of matrix. For the most part, the crystal is opaque, but with strong backlighting, a rich golden-green hue can be seen along the edges. I'm not 100% certain the crystal is Epidote, it could be Clinozoisite, but it would have to be analyzed to know for certain. There is a bit of roughness in a few spots, but overall the crystal is in good condition. A good rare locality specimen for any fan of Epidote or minerals from Mozambique.
From the collection of Vasco Trancoso, a medical doctor and prominent mineral collector from near Lisbon, Portugal (https://www.mindat.org/user-11954.html). He assembled his mineral collection over the course of 60 years, and built a fine worldwide display collection that we recently purchased. This piece is pictured on mindat.org at https://www.mindat.org/photo-184497.html
