Item Description

The Laxey Mine is best known for it's beautiful Ilvaite specimens, and this piece is a first for us as we've never seen Epidote from this locality. I'm not 100% certain that this piece is from the Laxey Mine, as I can't find a report of the species actually coming from this mine, so if somebody out there can shed some light on this piece, please let us know. Sharp, sparkling, gemmy, beautiful green colored Epidote crystals cover the display side of this specimen. The label refers to them as "drusy" and "botryoidal", but I can see close up that they are actually crystallized and really look nice under magnification. We used a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#10447). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
