Item Description

This specimen came labeled as coming from the "Redley Hills" of Riverside County, California, but I can't find a listing for "Redley Hills" in any database. If anybody has some information as to where specifically this piece might be from, please let us know. With that said, this piece would make a great addition to any California suite as I've never seen another one like it. The piece is a prismatic, lustrous, rich green colored prismatic crystal section of Epidote free of matrix. Neither end is terminated, but it's still a pretty good crystal. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#13219). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). after auction - A note added from David Davila: My wife Anne and I collected that specimen. It was in "Pedley Hills" where they were grading for a housing tract. They knocked the top off a huge pocket of epidote/quartz. We collected as much as we could before they poured a slab over it for new housing. Won't be able to get anymore of that! I believe there is a large specimen of this material at the California Mining Museum that we sold to Fred DeVito before he passed.
